The Portability of the GE Logiqbook

For the past thirty-five years my family has been involved in radiology and ultrasound careers. The type of equipment they have worked with has gone through some interesting changes over the past few years. One of the most unique that I’ve seen has been the GE Logiqbook. To me it seems like the most portable ultrasound system available. Unlike bulkier machines from the past this one is much like a laptop computer in is shape, size, and function.

I know for me personally carrying around my laptop has been such a lifesaver in that it’s easy to take my work with me wherever I happen to be. I can only imagine that this would translate to those in the ultrasound field in order to take their healthcare services directly to the patient if the need arose. Now if only they could produce an MRI machine that was the size of a notebook computer. All too often the size and function of that machine can be too frightening to the patient.

One thing’s for certain, if a physician were to use a device that looked more like a computer rather than a giant machine that the patient would be sucked into, then it would diminish a great deal of the negative association connected to MRI exams.

Womens Health - What is Thrush?

Among the many organisms that live in the human body is the yeast Candida albicans, Thrush, which lives in 80 percent of the human population at anyone time. Candida can found on the skin, in the stomach, colon, vagina, rectum, mouth, and throat. Under normal circumstances Candida has no harmful effects but can cause problems when an overgrowth appears in one of the areas mentioned, an overgrowth of this yeast is called Thrush and the medical name for Thrush is candidiasis

Thrush can become a serious problem if it is not treated, and anyone who thinks they may be suffering from Thrush should seek medical advice at the earliest opportunity.

The telltale signs and symptoms of Thrush?

In the mouth it looks like creamy white patches or small red spots on the tongue, the roof of the mouth (also known as the hard palate), gums or throat. Crusting on the corners of the mouth is also a common symptom of Thrush. Thrush makes it difficult and painful to swallow and can cause chest pain as well as nausea and making food taste different.

A medical practitioner is normally able to to check oral Thrush by checking your mouth and throat though in more serious cases they may examine your throat and stomach with an endoscope using X-rays or visual examination.

Many women suffer from Thrush, in fact it’s been estimated that over 75% of all women will experience candidiasis, a candida yeast infection more commonly known as Thrush, at some point in their lives. The telltale signs of a yeast infection include a thick, cottage-cheese-like discharge along with itching and burning. Some women also notice swelling of the lips which can also be red and tender.

Can female Thrush be prevented?

Normal amounts of yeast are needed for good health so primary prevention of vaginal yeast is not possible. Because the infection is a yeast and feeds on sugar some women have found it helps to prevent a recurrence of yeast overgrowth by limiting the sugar in their diet. Another easy method to use is to allow the area to breathe by wearing cotton panties and skirts or loose-fitting pants.

If infections constantly reoccur a medical examination is recommended to confirm diagnosis, but in any case ensure you seek medical advice before undertaking any form of treatment.

Raise Your Swim Wear Buying IQ

Finding the right swimsuit can be a tall order for some of us. Not because we are tall, because we don’t fit the run-of-the-mill swimsuits. But, atlas, with a little patience you can find the perfect suit to flatter your body.

Here are a few tips.

How about a one-piece or a two-piece? There are plenty of sexy one-piece suits being worn on the beach. They do not reveal it all, just enough to keep things interesting. The trick is to find one that fits your body type.

Are you swimming or sunbathing? If you are into swimming, a one-piece definitely is for you. Find one that doesn’t cut into the shoulders, comfortable with stretchy fabric. Don’t get anything that ties. You don’t want anything to come undone while doing laps!

If you are small on top, you may want a little swimsuit from Brazil. Their swimsuits are cut for the smaller bust line. Also look for one with some padding, underwire or demi-bra style. These help to enhance the bust line. Avoid tops with too much fabric or poor fit. Opt for separates where you can choose your top and bottom separately.

If you are well endowed, you may need some extra support. Underwire tops work well and look great. Also, halter-tops are a good choice by offering support. One piece swimsuits with some structure in the bust work well. Avoid strapless tops and those with tiny tops that offer minimal coverage. And again, make sure you choose your top and bottoms separately.

Those with short legs can flatter their figures with suits cut high on the thigh. This will make your leg look much longer. One trick is to wear a solid bottom bikini with a printed top. This will draw the eye upward and give you a longer look. Avoid boy shorts and skirted bikinis as they draw the eye downward and make you look shorter.

Clothes look good on the long body shape but you need to make sure you don’t look like a bean pole! Bright colors and horizontal strips work well with this body type. Boys short are perfect for slimming your hips. Avoid horizontal stripes, high necklines and solid dark colors.

Choosing A Wig - Dispelling The Wig Myths

Despite revolutionary changes in the wig industry and in the way wigs look and feel, many misconceptions about wigs persist. Here are a few of the most common myths.

MYTH #1: Wigs are hot, itchy and uncomfortable.

Not true. Innovations in wig design have resulted in wigs that are lighter and more comfortable than ever before - with many of today’s wigs weighing 2 oz. or less. Thinner wefts (fabric to which fibers are sewn) and lighter cap construction allows for greater air circulation. New lightweight wig fiber like WhisperLite® is softer and finer, resulting in an even lighter look and feel. Other wig features provide additional comfort, like velvet bands for added softness. Many wigs are also available in sizes, which ensures that the wig will remain comfortably and securely in place.

MYTH #2: Human hair wigs are better because they’re more natural.

One of the biggest misconceptions about wigs is that 100% human hair wigs will be more natural looking than synthetic wigs. Many women fear that “synthetic” wigs will look synthetic. This is not true! Each type of wig has its own unique benefits.

Synthetic wigs come prestyled, and are the easiest to care for. For this reason, synthetic styles are most often recommended by stylists to clients undergoing treatment. Synthetic wigs also offer a variety of comfort features, including non-slip linings, lightweight fiber and multiple sizes for a secure fit.

Human hair wigs, while more versatile, are not prestyled and therefore require more work. Unlike synthetic styles, these wigs can be heat-styled. They tend to weigh a bit more, and often require some trimming and customization.

MYTH #3: Wigs can cause damage to the scalp and slow natural hair growth.

Not true. Wearing a wig will not harm the scalp or inhibit regrowth. Many women choose to wear a wig because it can improve their mood and self-confidence. Other benefits of wig wearing include helping maintain body heat and preventing overexposure of sensitive skin to the elements.
